Edmonton-area attractions offering free and low-cost activities

In addition to the myriad free activities offered through the City of Edmonton, the following Edmonton-area businesses and attractions are offering free or low-cost activities for displaced Jasperites. This list will be updated as information becomes available.

Evacuee wristbands provided at Kennedale Rapid Emergency Response Terminal (REST) site will be considered valid fare on all Edmonton Transit bus and LRT routes as well as on Strathcona County, St. Albert, Fort Saskatchewan, Leduc and Spruce Grove transit until the end of this evacuation.

Registered evacuees with wristbands will receive free admission to all City of Edmonton recreation and leisure centres (find a recreation centre by selecting a quadrant and/or amenities) where they can shower and access recreation facilities.

The wristbands will also provide free admission to the Edmonton Valley Zoo, Muttart Conservatory and John Janzen Nature Centre.

Legislature Building of Alberta

Tours of the Alberta Legislature are available Wednesday through Sunday, every hour from 10 a.m. through 3 p.m. For information, contact joanne.blondheim@assembly.ab.ca.

Edmonton Riverboat

Discover the beauty of Edmonton as we invite you to join us for a delightful weekend brunch, dinner, or a mesmerizing sunset cruise. Our boat, known as the Edmonton Queen, has undergone a magnificent million-dollar renovation and is now under new ownership as of 2024.

All of our cruises will start boarding at the start time listed on your ticket. Boarding will last 45 minutes. We will set sail around an hour after the boarding time starts. 

Please be aware that all timings are subject to change due to factors such as low water levels or private events. For the latest updates, we recommend checking our website regularly.

Tickets are sold online; however, evacuees are encouraged to email the support team directly at info@edmontonriverboat.ca for a 20% discount promo code.

Activities

Amazone Playzone Indoor Playground

Amazone Playzone is the largest indoor playground in Western Canada and will be offering free admisson and Adventure Zone to any of the evacuees of wildfires across Canada. Please let us know in the front.

Plaza Bowling Co.

Like many Edmonton businesses, we are extending our support to our Jasper friends who have been displaced by the wildfires. If you're a Jasper resident currently in Edmonton, Plaza Bowling Co. would like to invite you to enjoy an hour of bowling on the house until it is safe to return to Jasper.

Rice Howard Way Entertainment District

The Rice Howard Way Entertainment District is in full swing this summer. Every Saturday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., Rice Howard Way (101 Avenue & 100 Street) will be closed to vehicles as it transforms into a summer block party series.

You can pop into any of the businesses along the block and grab an alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage to bring out on the street. There are also plenty of delicious and accessible eats for the whole family. You can order for takeout and bring it out on the street.

TELUS World of Science

Families forced to evacuate their homes due to the recent wildfires receive free Science Centre General Admission.

Any Albertan who has been displaced by the recent wildfires and is waiting to return home can enjoy a day of learning and exploring for FREE. Simply show your government-issued ID indicating your home address and immerse yourself in interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, and more!The offer does not include IMAX films, evening Hollywood movies, special IMAX events, evening Laser Shows, or special events.

Edmonton Symphony Orchestra free outdoor concerts

The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra (ESO) musicians are on the move! This summer, join members of your ESO in your neighbourhood through ESO Outdoors. Curated groups of ESO members will perform delightful renditions of memorable songs spanning multiple genres, including classical, pops, and Hollywood film scores.

These concerts are free to everyone, not just to wildfire evacuees, and will take place in outdoor spaces in Edmonton and surrounding communities as the ESO musicians connect with you through the power of live music. We kindly ask that you consider making a donation to help ensure we can continue to provide these summer concerts for the community.

Rapid Fire Theatre

From July 26 through August August 9, Rapid Fire Theatre is offering free admission to any show to anyone displaced by the Jasper wildfires.
